The Advantages and Disadvantages of Coworking

Here we thought we'd provide you with a simple, 101 break down of why you may be interested in joining a coworking space. If you do feel like it could be for you, feel free to contact us and join us at Motherland Studio:

Advantages:
  • The sociable atmosphere- the open space, encouraging interaction and the surrounding of other companies mean coworking is a sociable environment to work in. How can this help your business and productivity? Firstly, when you're enjoying your work, you're going to be more productive. No one does their best work in a boring, uninspiring atmosphere. The opportunity to discuss ideas with a range of different people is also the perfect opportunity for new ideas to flourish.
  • Shared amenities- paying for rent within a space is not onlyeconomical but also efficient and less wasteful. With this in mind, it seems illogical not to share space with other businesses. You can use the WiFi of the space and like in Motherland Studio, enjoy a shared kitchen space and unlimited tea and coffee. This means you can spend a lot less time thinking about logistical aspects of starting or developing a business and get straight to the most important bits. We'll cover the rest.
  • A great place for a start up- firstly for the cost saved by sharing the space and the basics of what you'll need are  already there. However, for a new business that will benefit greatly from learning for others, this collaborative
  • environment is perfect.
  • A great place for a more mature business- coworking spaces are great for start ups and mature businesses alike. Major household name brands are starting to move to coworking as they enable you to learn from young minds and start ups. This is important for any business wanting to progress and keep up with change

Disadvantages:
  • Noise- coworking spaces can be noisy with socialising encouraged and so many others around you. However, if you enjoy a bit of background noise, this may not be an issue
  • Lack of privacy- if you're working on something super private or enjoy being alone, this could be an issue. However, lack of privacy also means increased accountability
  • There may not always be the amenities you need. For most businesses, everything you could need will be there but for some more specialised, you may need another space with your own equipment too
